Data security for individuals

adminBlog, Security

In our last post, we looked at the security of your patient data and established that, thanks to e-clinic (and provided you follow some common sense best practices), your data is protected.

However, many people are complacent about their own personal data security. For example, there is a common misconception that only large organisations, governments, and businesses are targeted by cyber-attacks. This is not true – your computer, tablet or mobile device are just as likely to be a target. Normally, individuals are targeted by cyber criminals for sensitive information like credit card or bank details and passwords.

Some common ways in which individuals can be affected are phishing attacks, malware attacks, ransomware attacks, man-in-the-middle attacks.

Here are some of the ways you can protect yourself from hackers:

  • Never click on spam, phishing, or a suspicious email. Verify or check an email or a link carefully before opening any attachment.
  • If something seems too good to be true, it probably is. Don’t fall prey to offers, such as “iPhone X at just $10″ or “Congratulations! You won a car. Open attachment to claim now.”
  • Never download any untrusted or pirated software or application.
  • Don’t download fake security software.
  • Use antivirus and/or firewalls
  • Don’t make any online transactions if the website is not secured. Check HTTPS or green address barbefore making any payment or typing in any sensitive details
  • Use two-factor authentications.
  • Don’t share your personal or sensitive information to strangers.
